The Sentef lab is an Emmy Noether group sponsored by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and based at the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter in Hamburg. We are exploring pump-probe spectroscopies as a tool to understand and control the dynamics in materials driven out of equilibrium by ultrashort laser pulses. To this end, we perform numerical simulations based on nonequilibrium Green’s functions as well as time-dependent density functional theory.

Ultimately we would like to help guide experimental efforts as well as pave the way for further theoretical developments, in order to understand the dynamical interplay of electrons, lattice, and pump laser photons on an equal footing, and to use the lessons learned in order to design optimized materials with better functionalities.
